Since 1983 and the imposition of the Sharia law, the traditions of the Nuba have dramatically changed. As indigenous, they were not used to wearing clothes, or speaking any other language than their colloquial ones. Nowadays, the younger generation only speak Arabic, and they all cover themselves as if they were Muslims. 

The tradition for a bride of walking under a veil comes from arabist Northern Sudan.
